AUTHOR'S GUEST POST:

On Being a Writer

Being able to express your creativity is the one thing I love and find unique about being a writer. Some people may look at something, and consume it in a sense that they have an opinion on it about how it makes them feel. For writers, artists, and creators, you get to look at something, have a feeling/opinion on it, but you also get to go further and decide how you want to turn it into a piece of art/fiction.  You see things in the real world, and you're already thinking about how to write about it. Everything to you can be used as an idea. It’s like you're studious. You're observing things. The inclination to do it like that just comes to you, and you roll with it. The other thing that is unique about being a writer is that you are the creator of many worlds. You get to determine how it goes and what happens in it. That is something all writers should take pride in. Most importantly in my opinion, a writer gets to determine what message they want to put out there for people to consume. Think about back when students read a book, and they discuss what the author wanted to say. That is the power a writer has. The power to get people to have discussions, and dive into the mind of the writer, but also society. I find that fiction is a reflection of both the writer and the society they're in, and it's up to the writer to show that.
